The last few years have indeed been a break in the routine of global society. The emergence of the pandemic that isolated social and work life lasted so long that not even the biggest pessimists believed it. Almost two years of separation have generated impacts that need to be adapted to the new lifestyle.
During this period, TikTok's explosion took over the entire world, largely to alleviate the daily boredom of being "locked" at home. With the return to normal routines, people who were used to showing their daily lives on this social network did not stop producing content.
This provided an opportunity to expand video production beyond the home environment. Many users saw it as a good way to impress their superiors by showing their shopping routines, visits to the beauty salon, etc., in videos that have received over 2 million likes.
However, it is important to emphasize the need to be careful when saying where and with whom one works. The new generation grew up sharing their lives, even if they were fantasies, on social media, whether through photos, videos or vlogs, and does not understand the reason for caution just because they have entered the corporate world, an ideal that is different from that thought of on Wall Street, which values extreme confidentiality.
For economic conservatives, the kind of videos posted on TikTok can serve as ammunition to attract young talent, but they also show a culture of extreme work.
Such as videos of JPMorgan interns on boats in Manhattan; Morgan Stanley employees enjoying food during summer training; and the other side of the coin, which is the case of employees working early before sunrise, or analysts working after midnight.
It is worth mentioning that nowadays companies are reluctant to maintain such a culture, while others have given in to the modern system. Goldman Sachs, for example, plans to open a TikTok account to show employees' daily lives, even though they have already demanded the deletion of videos that they claim violate their guidelines.
However, as much as the world needs to adapt and avoid censorship, employees still choose to avoid disclosing the corporate environment in which they work, after all, employment protection speaks louder than short fame on social networks.
Finally, in addition to the common sense of each individual, it is important for employees and collaborators to pay attention to the governance and Compliance programs of their respective companies, before beginning to expose situations that contradict the institutional internal policies.
