In a news story released on October 18, 2021, Atento, a company focused on providing call center services, specialized in unified communications and business process outsourcing (CRM/BPO), had its structure shaken due to a hacker attack on its networks. The virtual kidnapping, or ransomware (Lockbit 2.0), was so invasive that it caused instability on the New York Stock Exchange, where the company has its shares. It is worth noting that the Spanish multinational was hit in a more significant way in Brazil, where its services were interrupted, with the aim of isolating the systems that were damaged, aiming to protect against the improper disclosure of data. It is important to note that the company is working extremely urgently to remedy any possible losses arising from this event.
The Lockbit 2.0 program is known worldwide for its speed in encrypting data on affected machines. The web-hijackers stated that the group has 6 (six) days to pay the ransom before the information is provided for sale.
In a note and satisfaction to Wall Street, the group states that to date no type of leak or commercialization of data from clients linked to it has been detected.
This situation once again highlights the concern that companies must have regarding the privacy of their data, as this is a transnational movement, as the impact occurs simultaneously in several countries, as we live in times of a predominantly digital economy.
