Despite the serious economic crisis that the country is going through, Argentina has recently been one of the countries that has most signaled favorably towards the adoption of cryptoassets in its economy, and the economic crisis itself and high inflation may have driven this movement.
Thus, the Mendoza Tax Administration (“ATM”) began accepting tax payments with crypto assets as of August 24, describing the new payment service as fulfilling “the strategic objective of modernization and innovation”, giving “taxpayers different means to fulfill their tax obligations”.
In this first phase of accepting crypto assets, only stablecoins (USDT, USDC, etc.) will be accepted, so that payment will be made through a portal on the ATM website using exchanges, since the ATM will send the taxpayer a payment QR Code with the value of the peso already converted to the chosen cryptocurrency. As soon as the ATM confirms receipt, it will send a virtual payment receipt to the taxpayer.
It should be noted that due to restrictions on the free flow of foreign capital in Argentina, many citizens began to operate more frequently with stablecoins that have parity with the Dollar, making the adoption of crypto assets in the country broader than in other places with a freer economy.
